What will you be speaking about at CCW 2022? Why is that an important topic?

I will be addressing new technologies and solutions in the area of IoT and how they can make cities a safer place, but also, more specifically, [how they can] help public safety authorities with a better situational awareness picture, safety for frontline staff and more efficient operations.

What are the key messages that you would like people to take away after attending your conference session?

Investing in innovation is a long journey and the ecosystem is complex. To make it successful there needs to be not only an overall cross-functional strategy and a goal, but also a willingness to start with IoT proof of concept, to gain learnings and real life experiences.

What do you see as being the big issues and challenges for the sector over the next five years?

The sector right now is investing heavily in mission-critical broadband, which is good as it’s a key enabler for future innovation. But, so far the actual use cases for new IoT technologies are still in early stages and there is not always a comprehensive strategy to become more data driven.

What will be the most transformative development in terms of the technology? What will that development mean for user operations, as well as the broader market?

One key area will be the number of connected objects entering our space, whether they are simple sensors or advanced autonomous drones, they can generate data and insights. To make this data manageable, both for real-time insights and longer timeframe analytics, there will be a need for strong analytics, AI and simulation capabilities.

What should be the number one priority for the sector going into the future?

Get mission-critical broadband as quickly as possible. Once this is done, a new world opens up in critical collaborations. The other priority is to plan for several proof of concepts among mission-critical users, to gain learning of what type of data can be generated from the frontline, and how it will fit into existing frameworks to gain faster responses and a better situational picture.
