Airbus has provided communications technology to help secure this July’s Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, known as the Hajj.

According to a statement released by the company, it provided public safety and security personnel with TETRA technology, as well as its Tactilon Agnet 800 “collaboration platform.”

Describing the latter solution, the statement said: “Tactilon Agnet allows users to leverage solutions to talk, exchange multimedia messages, and record and share videos at the touch of a button [regardless of device]. It enables secure and reliable group communication, one-to-one voice calls, as well as video and picture/text messaging.”

Speaking of the roll-out, Airbus SLC vice president and head of Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific, Selim Bouri, said: “During unique events such as the Hajj pilgrimage, sturdy and reliable communication among the public authorities is essential. Without such crucial collaboration, it would be difficult for them to safeguard both a large number of visitors, and the historical venue and premises.

“This year’s Hajj took place amid the still raging pandemic. Therefore it was more vital than ever to equip [safety personnel] with flexible and reliable solutions for them to share information quickly. We are proud to once again participate in safeguarding such a holy event.”
